Located in a quiet environment with a wild nature (natural reserve), Quinta da Murteira is a property isolated in the hills, hidden at the end of a sandpath of about 1,5 km, but nevertheless at only 1/4h's drive to the town of Tavira, its lagoon, its bird reserve and its beautiful beaches. You will be able to enjoy a very nice weather, birds watching, nice walks, beautiful starry skies or simply relax by the pool (for resident's exclusive use). Situated at 30 km from Faro airport, Quinta da Murteira, being situated centrally in the Sotavento (Leeward) Algarvio (Eastern part of the Algarve) could be the departing point for a day at the beach or to discover the South of Portugal or even the close Andalusia (Spain is only 40 km away and you will only have to drive 180 km to reach Seville). If you play golf, you will find many golf courses in the area.

Murteira (literally "place planted with myrtle") is a place known since "always" by the inhabitants of the region. There is a century there was here a farmhouse that operated the 3.5 hectare area. Bordered by two streams, at the edge of the property you can still find traces of an orchard (vines, quince trees, arbutus, orange trees) and old wells. The entire property is planted with olive trees, cork oaks, fig, almond, carob trees ... The death of the farmers in the 60s corresponded to the disappearance of the exploitation ...

For us, Belgians of origin, the desire of another life made us "put our suitcases" in 1998 in this little piece of authentic Algarve, yet so different from the tourist areas where, sometimes, buildings invade all the space. We bought a charming little house near the village of Santa Catarina. A few years later, driven by our desire to true nature and space we discovered our "paradise" in the form of a few abandoned hills, scattered with the ruins of the old farmhouse and its outbuildings, all invaded by brambles . No water, no electricity, the only access being made by a small mule trail. Meanwhile, the entire area had been declared a "nature reserve" and forbidden to build. The only exception was to "renovate" the existing ruins ... this was our chance!

It took us years to get the necessary licenses, clear the land, widen roads, bring electricity, make a borehole for water and, of course, build our homes.

Finally, in 2007 we could welcome our first guests. While we are not expecting, it was quickly successful. Personnaly, we are not for much. This is our environment, a rare kind of nature, an absolute quiet away from the tourist crowds which makes the happiness of our visitors ...

If you are looking for a "safe haven" where to rest, a place "in the middle of nowhere" but close to everything" ... then "Quinta da Murteira" maybe is here for you ...
